Francis Bonus Creston

Francis Bonus, 76, of Creston died March 26, 2013, at Greater Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 25 and 34. The Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery south of Creston. Open visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Friday with family present 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family. Francis Lee Bonus, son of Mildred Isabelle (Green) and Elmo Edward Bonus, was born March 13, 1937, in Orient.

Francis attended and graduated from Cromwell High School in 1955.

On July 8, 1957, Francis married Jacqueline “Jackie” June (Hodge) at Salem Lutheran Church in Creston.

Francis worked for Commonwealth Theatres in Creston and then was transferred to Great Bend, Kan., where he operated three movie theatres and three drive-in theatres. He also tried “Roughnecking” in the many oil fields around Great Bend. He drove a semi for a packing company. While in Great Bend, he was a cabinet setter for Marlette Trailer Factory and a milk man for Meadow Gold Dairy. He also helped farm, while in Kansas.

In 1971, the family returned to Creston at the request of Tom Stott, Jack Stott and Ida Hafner to farm their farmland. While farming, he worked for Puralator Filter Factory, helped build an elevator at Creston Farmers Co-op and laid pipeline across several counties.

In 1983, Francis began working part-time for the city of Creston at Graceland Cemetery, then started full-time. He worked for the city of Creston for 20 years. He continued to farm the family farm after retiring from the city.

Francis was a member of the Eagles Lodge No. 1398 of Creston, member of Old Time Power and St. John’s Church of Christ, where he served as president of the board.

Francis is survived by his wife Jacqueline “Jackie” Bonus of Creston; daughters, Kally (husband Gale) Johnston of Greenfield and Kim (husband Randall) Romesburg of Creston; son Matthew (wife Diana) Bonus of Adel; grandchildren, Benjamin (wife Angelique) Johnston, Courtney (wife Kathy) Johnston, Brooke (husband Jackson) Bissell, Mark and Brent Romesburg and Madlyn, Samuel, Joseph and Garrett Bonus; great-grandchildren, Lane Johnston and Audrey Johnston and Austin Romesburg; sisters, Joan (husband Wilbur) Chubick of Creston and Rachel (husband Jim) Wardlow of Creston; many family and friends.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents; father- and mother-in-law, Malcolm and Maxine Hodge; and grandson Adam Romesburg.
