Gerald “Jerry” McIlravy, 71, of Creston died March 31, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 5, at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. David Tebbenkamp will officiate. Private burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Gerald “Jerry” Floyd McIlravy, son of Olive Christine (Rogers) and Charley Hugh McIlravy, was born July 2, 1941, in rural Orient.
Jerry graduated from Orient High School in 1959, then Commercial Extension in Omaha, Neb.
Jerry worked as a bus line router for Continental Trailways in Omaha, Neb., and Los Angeles, Calif., then as an aircraft router for Western Airlines in Los Angeles, Calif.
On March 13, 1971, Jerry married M. Susan Eder in Los Angeles, Calif.
In 1973, Jerry and Susan moved back to rural Orient to farm.
Jerry was a member of the First Baptist Church of Creston.
Jerry is survived by his wife Susan McIlravy of rural Creston; sons, Kevin (wife Michelle) and their children, Jayden and Jeremiah McIlravy of Maddock, N.D.; Jason (wife Marisa) and their children, Alik and Mikhail “Misha” McIlravy of Cambridge; and Matt (wife Ashley) McIlravy of Ballinger, Texas; brothers, Dean (wife Nancy) McIlravy of Norwalk and Don (wife Carol) McIlravy of Jamestown, N.D.; several nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and brother James McIlravy.
