VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota freshman pitcher Madison Frain of Creston was named The Summit League Pitcher of the Week for her performance March 11-17.

Frain had one appearance during the week, a complete-game win against Western Illinois. She struck out six batters for her eighth game of the season with six or more strikeouts, and allowed one unearned run on three hits. Frain went 13-straight innings without allowing an earned run.

For the season as the Coyotes’ No. 2 starting pitcher, Frain is 5-7 with a 3.84 earned run average. In 62 innings she has 67 strikeouts, 50 walks and 46 hits allowed.

No. 1 starting pitcher Erica Deney of Sioux City North, a senior, is 13-4 with a 2.21 ERA in 18 starts. She has 81 strikeouts in 123 innings and 105 hits allowed. Senior Missy Blackburn is the top reliever and has three starts with a 3-1 mark and 3.15 ERA.

USD (22-12 overall, 5-1 conference) hosts South Dakota State in three weekend games starting on Friday.
