Creston High School senior Katie Stevens earned her first state championship in the girls wrestling wrestling tournament held March 28 at Waukon. The event is held annually by the United States Girls Wrestling Association (USGWA). Stevens had previously finished second and third, but this year claimed the 113-pound title with three pins. One of the victories came against a fellow member of Team Iowa, a girls squad that competes together in the summer. Stevens was a member of the Creston/O-M wrestling team throughout high school.
