Panther boys open season with win over Atlantic

ATLANTIC — The Creston/Orient-Macksburg boys golf team started off its 2013 campaign with a victory at Atlantic on Thursday, edging the Trojans 142-147.

Sophomore Coleton Hoepker won medalist honors for the Panthers, golfing an even-par round of 34. Junior Carson Whittington took runner-up honors with a one-over par round of 35.

Hoepker golfed a bogey-free round, scoring par on each hole.

Sophomore Sam Hartsock and senior Trey Thomsen also golfed solid rounds, finishing with scores of 36 and 37, respectively.

Hunter Sickels scored a 40 and Maxx Walters golfed a round of 41 for the Panthers.

Evan Schuler and Sam Markham each golfed rounds of 35 for the Trojans.

The Creston junior varsity team finished with a team score of 161, led by Kainen Somers and Christian Groumoutis, who each played rounds of 39.

The Panthers return to action Tuesday at home against Clarke and Winterset.

Girls

The Creston/O-M girls golf team lost a close 221-233 match to ADM here on Friday.

Freshman Madison Hance won medalist honors for the Panthers, shooting a score of 44.

Sarah Waigand golfed a round of 53, just missing out on runner-up honors, which went to ADM’s Jaycee Mandernach, who shot a 51. Shelby Palser shot a 56 and Ashtyn Riley added a round of 79 for the Panthers.
