Marie Hudson — Afton

Marie Hudson, 92, of Afton died April 5, 2013, at Afton Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Afton. The Rev. Ken Halbur will officiate. Burial will be in St. Edwards Catholic Cemetery of Afton. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 6 p.m. Christian Wake Service at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., Afton. Memorials are to be established. Marie Kathryn Hudson, daughter of Martha Marie (Osfalg) and Frank M. Fluckey, was born Dec. 1, 1920, in Thayer.

Marie graduated from Arispe High School in 1938. Marie went on to study at Creston Junior College and then graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo.

On Aug. 25, 1943, Marie married Ralph E. Hudson in Afton. They lived all of their married life farming in the Arispe area.

Marie was a longtime school teacher.

Marie was a lifelong member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Afton.

Marie is survived by her sons, Mark (wife Donna) Hudson and Clark Hudson, all of Afton, and Brian (wife Janet) Hudson of Orient; daughters, Rosemarie (husband Robert) Harrold of Wapella, Ill., and Kathryn “Kitty” (husband Russell) Cowling of Orient; brother Robert (wife Marilyn) Fluckey of Murray; sisters, Evelyn Mathes of Afton and Helen (husband Darrell) Kingery of Creston; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2002; son Dan (wife Twyla) Hudson in 2007; brother Joe Fluckey; sister Francis (John) Justice; and brother-in-law George Mathes.
