General manager

Southwestern Athletic Director Bill Krejci is general manager for USA Baseball’s entry in the IBAF 12-and-under World Championships July 20-28 in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei.

The team will train July 14-18 before departing for the world tournament. Krejci has coached two medal-winning teams for USA Baseball in world tournaments.

Youth track

CORNING — The corning Youth Track Club will sponsor a youth track meet Sunday, April 28, at the Corning track.

Children pre-kindergarten through sixth grade are eligible to participate. Entry fee is $2 per event with the following events scheduled — softball throw, football throw, long jump, 50 meters, 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 4x100 relay, 4x200 relay.

No relays are held for pre-K through second grade. Relays can be coed. Medals will be awarded for the top three places, with ribbons for fourth through sixth places.

Registration is from noon to 1:15 p.m. with events starting at 1:30 p.m. There are no pre-registrations. No rain date is planned.

Boys banquet

The Creston boys basketball banquet will be held 5 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at the high school commons.

Families are asked to bring one entree and a dessert to the potluck dinner. Beverages and table service will be provided.


DIAGONAL — Southern Edge basketball will host its spring 3-on-3 tournament on April 13 at the Diagonal High School gym.

Coordinator Gina Knox said age divisions are again set up for third-fourth grade, fifth-sixth grade, seventh-eighth grade, high school, adult male and female teams. A coed division will be available, pending interest.

Entry fee is $20 per team with teams limited to four members. First games will be played at 8 a.m.
