Creston/O-M sophomore Coleton Hoepker chips up onto the third green at Crestmoor Golf Club during Tuesday's triangular with Clarke and Winterset. Hoepker shot a round of 46 for the Panthers.

It certainly wasn’t the best golfing weather here on Tuesday, but the Creston/O-M golfers battled through the weather conditions as the boys picked up an 11-stroke victory over Winterset and easily distanced themselves from Clarke.

Juniors Carson Whittington and Christian Groumoutis each carded rounds of 3-over par 39 in the tough weather conditions, earning co-medalist honors.

“The boys played well,” head coach Jan Lesan said. “For varsity, Carson and Christian were very focused for the conditions. They were thinking a 42 or 43 would be good, but shot 39s.”

Senior Trey Thomsen added a round of 43 and Sam Hartsock shot a 45 for the Panthers to contribute to the team scoring. Coleton Hoepker and Maxx Walters each finished with rounds of 46.

The Panthers posted a team score of 166, beating Winterset’s 177 and Clarke’s 213 in the cold, windy, rainy and foggy conditions.

Girls

The Creston/O-M girls had only three golfers on Tuesday, but competed well against Winterset and Clarke individually.

Freshman Madison Hance won medalist honors with a six-hole score of 32. Clarke’s Jordyn Wright won runner-up honors with a round of 33.

Sarah Waigand just missed out on runner-up honors with her round of 34. Creston/O-M freshman Shelby Palser added a round of 38.

“I can’t wait until we get all the girls playing,” Lesan said. “They played well today. It was a good night of golf in poor conditions.”

Winterset just barely edged Clarke in team scores, posting a score of 150 compared to Clarke’s score of 151.

The Panther girls return to action Saturday at the Winterset Tournament and travel to Clarinda on Monday while the boys host Clarinda on Monday.
