Creston firefighters prepare to climb the ladder truck to ventilate Maurices during a fire March 15. The four-alarm fire started at approximately 9 a.m., and all clothing inside the building was a total loss. Maurices plans to open at the store's temporary local Wednesday.

It’s almost here.

Maurices will be opening its doors at the department store’s temporary location, 602 Sheldon St., Tuesday.

On March 15, Maurices’ permanent building caught fire. Creston, Afton and Orient fire departments responded to the fire, and a fourth alarm brought more resources to the scene. The fire lasted approximately an hour and a-half.

“The fire marshal stated it was electrical in nature, but likely we’ll not know the exact cause,” said Monica Hendrickson, marketing manager at Maurices home office in Duluth, Minn.

All clothing was discarded and considered a total loss; however, it is unknown the total damage amount.

Maurices is now temporarily leasing a building from State Savings Bank.

“We had to do a little bit of retrofitting to get everything in there that we needed,” said Hendrickson. “We’re expecting about 16 to 17 weeks we’ll be back in our permanent location.”

Maurices will maintain standard store hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m., Sunday.
