Give it a second chance
From Sandy Webb
I was sorry to hear of the disappointment someone experienced during her visit to a local nursing home. I am also sorry she felt she needed to express herself after only one visit, not giving a chance to see if what she saw was a daily experience. I have gone to find myself a chair and been stopped by the staff who stopped to find me one.
My husband has been a resident of a local nursing home going on three years now. I was lucky enough to retire early and move back to Creston as my husband wanted to move “back home” when it became necessary he could not be cared for at home following an accident.
One of the many things I appreciate so much by the kitchen staff is Jim is given two entree choices, as well as vegetables each meal of the day. I was invited to eat as many meals a day I wished to. I am now eating each noon and sometimes the evening meal with Jim.
The residents, as well as the staff, have become special friends to me. I am impressed with the meals and the way I am treated by all.
My husband has never had to eat anything he does not want to. The food is excellent and several items have been taken off the menu as residents have said they do not care for it.
I have set into a special gathering of the residents as they are able to pick one of the meals each month. This month starts with fried chicken from the local Pizza Ranch and ends with ice cream sundaes.
Everyone is welcome to come visit and see for yourselves the busy schedule the residents have to participate in. Yesterday was kickball!
Come out and have some fun, the residents enjoy company!
