Jeane Lowry, 90, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Bridgewater, died April 14, 2013, at the home of her son in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at the United Methodist Church in Bridgewater. Burial will be in Garner Cemetery, south of Bridgewater. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Steen Funeral Home, 525 Maple St., Fontanelle. Jeane L. (Adrian) Lowry, daughter of Edna (Tucker) and Merlyn W. Adrian, was born Jan. 23, 1923, in Adams County.
Jeane grew up in Adams and Madison counties, until her sophomore year, when she moved to Creston. She graduated from Creston High School in 1941.
On June 15, 1941, Jeane married Merlyn Sulgrove.
While Merlyn was in the service, Jeane worked at a registration center for the draft board and later worked as a telephone operator in Des Moines.
Upon Merlyn’s discharge from the service, they settled in Bridgewater, where she worked alongside Merlyn at the family business, Sulgrove Hardware. Later, they sold the business and operated M Sulgrove Company, a John Deere implement dealership, until Merlyn’s death in 1971.
Jeane worked at Dwyer Hardware until her retirement.
In 1977, Jeane married Emmett Lowry. He died a short time later.
On June 14, 1994, Jeane married Kenneth Anderson and moved to Bonita, Calif. They spent their summers in Bridgewater.
Last year, when her health began to fail, she moved back to Iowa with her son, Les and his family.
Jeane was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and United Methodist Church in Bridgewater.
Jeane is survived by her husband Kenneth Anderson of Bonita, Calif.; sons, Lon Sulgrove of Boyertown, Pa., and Les (Linda) Sulgrove of Des Moines; stepchildren, Kyla Wood of Bonita, Calif., Karen (Rich) Orr of San Diego, Calif., Gary Anderson of San Francisco, Calif., Pat (Susi) Lowry of Fontanelle and Barb (Charlie) Campbell of Fontanelle; granchildren, Lindsay (Matthew) Foster, Kelsay (Michael) Johnson and Jonathan Sulgrove; step-grandchildren, Lonny (Casey) Wood, Justin Orr, Kendra (Steve) Gyepes, Kerri Orr, Mark Lowry, Laurie Welsch and Scott Campbell; great-grandchildren, Patton Oehler, Pierce and Parker Foster and Blake Johnson; step-great-grandchildren, Sofia and Jacob Gyepes, Soleil Wood, Kolton and Kaylie Welsch; several nieces, nephews, cousins and family.
In addition to her first and second husband, Jeane was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jerry.
