Cleola Geist Mount Ayr

Cleola Geist, 87, of Mount Ayr died April 20, 2013, at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.

A celebration of life will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Mount Ayr United Methodist Church. The Rev. Skip Rushing will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Open visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. today at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. Memorials may be given to the Mount Ayr Little League program. Cleola Geist, daughter of Gladys (Reynolds) and Hugh Burchett, was born Nov. 9, 1925.

Cleola was raised in the vicinity of Ringgold and Caledonia.

Cleola graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1943 and started teaching school in the fall of that year and continued for five years.

On Aug. 26, 1948, Cleola married Carroll “Lefty” Geist.

Cleola served on many boards: United Methodist Church, Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club, Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr Zoning Appeals and Republican Party of Iowa at the local, district and state levels.

Cleola is survived by her son Crae (Jodie) Geist of Mount Ayr; grandchildren, Sarah Geist (fiancé Alex Stephens), Kelsey Geist (boyfriend Kyle Thelen), Blaine Geist and Adrene (Randy) Rathburn; and daughter-in-law Becky Geist.

Cleola was preceded in death by her husband; son Cullen; parents; brother Bill (Inez) Burchett; sister Betty (Pete) Powers; and brother Keith (Winona) Burchett.
