Maryalice (Schmitz) Herrera Saipan

Maryalice Herrera, 46, of Saipan, formerly of Afton, died April 17, 2013, at home in Saipan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 2, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Afton. The Rev. Ken Halbur will officiate. Burial will be in St. Edward’s Catholic Cemetery near Afton. Open visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., Afton. Memorials are to be determined. Maryalice Frances Herrera, daughter of Alice Christine and Terence John Schmitz, was born Nov. 3, 1966, in San Diego, Calif.

Maryalice graduated from Patrick Henry High School in San Diego, Calif., in 1984.

In 1994, Maryalice and her family moved to Afton, where she raised her children, worked as a CNA at Afton Care Center, and later owned and operated a bar in Murray with her husband for several years. They later moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, area before moving to Saipan.

Maryalice is survived by her husband Jose Herrera of Saipan; daughters, Christine (husband Ray) la Coste of New Orleans, La., Nicole (Ella) Woodward of Creston and Dawn (husband Jonathan) Hanan of Mount Ayr; sons, Edward (Jessica) Woodward of Afton and Christopher and Robert Baddley, both of Olalla, Wash.; four grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; mother Alice Schmitz of Afton; father Terence Schmitz of San Diego, Calif.; brother Christopher (wife Alissa) Schmitz of Afton; and sisters, Angela Schmitz of Afton and Theresa Lujano of San Diego, Calif.

Maryalice was preceded in death by her stepdaughter Christiana Herrera.
