NV, Pleasantville claim POI golf championships

The Nodaway Valley boys golf team ran away with the team title at the Pride of Iowa Conference meet in Afton at Lakeshore Golf and Country Club, defeating the host East Union/Murray Eagles by 41 strokes.

The Wolverines also placed four golfers in the top five of the individual standings, with Delson Grantham leading the way, winning the conference championship with a score of 74.

Grantham was followed by teammates Wes Davis and Mason Clarke, along with Central Decatur’s returning individual champion Noah Simon, who all recorded rounds of 79. Nodaway Valley’s Jackson Lamb finished fifth with a score of 82.

Corey McCracken of East Union/Murray finished seventh, shooting an 85. Teammate Devon Anderson finished 10th after scoring an 88.

Nodaway posted a team score of 314, while runner-up East Union/Murray scored a 355, beating Central Decatur by one stroke for second place.

Lenox finished sixth with a team score of 370, while Mount Ayr finished eighth at 383 and Corning placed 10th, scoring a 530.

Meanwhile, in at Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club, Pleasantville claimed the girls POI Conference championship.

Pleasantville shot a team score of 374, edging out Central Decatur’s 385 and Corning’s 387. Wayne finished a distant fourth with a score of 503.

Central Decatur’s Kate Havens claimed the individual crown with an 18-hole score of 84, while Corning’s Bailey Heaton finished fourth, shooting a 91.

Kaleigh Westlake finished fifth for Corning with a round of 92. Caitlin Giles of Mount Ayr finished 10th with a round of 99.
