Creston/Orient-Macksburg sophomore Sam Hartsock rips a tee shot on the par-4 fourth hole at Crestmoor Golf Club during Monday's triangular meet against Clarke of Osceola and Red Oak. Hartsock carded a round of 40 for the Panthers, who easily defeated both the Indians and the Tigers.

The Creston/Orient-Macksburg boys golfers took on both Red Oak and Clarke here at Crestmoor Golf Club on Monday, but the greatest competition for the Panthers came from within their own team.

The Creston/O-M varsity team easily defeated Red Oak and Clarke, posting a team score of 162 compared to Clarke’s 184 and Red Oak’s 203.

But the Creston/O-M junior varsity team finished right on the varsity team’s heels, posting a team score of 167.

On the nicest day of the spring the Panthers have had to golf on, both the varsity and the JV teams delivered with impressive scores, showing just how deep this Panther team is.

Sophomore Coleton Hoepker led the way for Creston/O-M, winning medalist honors with a 3-over par round of 39 to earn medalist honors.

Junior Carson Whittington and Clarke senior Mitch Lampe tied for runner-up honors with their rounds of 41.

Sam Hartsock added a round of 40 for the Panthers, while Kainen Somers shot a 42. Evan Nielsen recorded a 46 and Trey Thomsen shot a round of 49 for Creston/O-M.

Leading the Panther JV team was Hunter Sickels with a round of 39, while Christian Groumoutis finished with a score of 40.

The win keeps the Panther varsity team, ranked third in Class 3A, undefeated this year.

Both the Panther boys and girls travel to Atlantic today for the Atlantic Tournament.
