Creston's Ryan Cook punches a volley during his 8-0 victory over Joseph Hizenbaugh of Chariton Tuesday at the SWCC courts. Cook also teamed with Jacob Caviness for a doubles win as the Panthers swept a 9-0 dual victory.

A close match at boys No. 1 singles highlighted 9-0 sweeps by the Creston/O-M boys and girls tennis teams over Chariton Tuesday.

Panther senior Colby Taylor edged Chariton’s heralded No. 1 player, Willie Felderman, 8-6.

“Colby had a nice win at number one, giving junior Willie Felderman his first-ever dual loss,” Creston/O-M coach Kevin Cooper said. “Our experience played a huge role tonight in getting the win.”

The Panther boys improved 5-2 in duals.

The Creston girls outscored the Chargers 90-20 in sweeping all of the singles and doubles matches at Chariton.

“All of the girls came out with strong hitting and great serves,” coach Amanda Plymale said. “This was a good motivation lifter for the Panthers. The varsity and JV were able to maintain the aggressive play through the entire lineup.”

Among the victors were Emma Johnson and Amy Dunphy, seniors who were honored on senior recognition night April 22.
