Stanley Peterson, 85, of Corning died April 29, 2013, at his home, after fighting cancer.

Celebration of life services and Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 3, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Corning. Private internment will be at a later date. Open visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday with family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service at Roland-Ritchie Funeral Home, 905 Benton Ave., Corning. Memorials may be given in Stan’s name directed to Mercy Health Care Foundation for nursing or hospice support. Online condolences may be left at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com.

Stanley Lloyd Peterson, son of Ollie (Retland) and Lloyd Peterson, was born March 31, 1928, in Lincoln Center in Adams County. Stanley was raised on the family farm in Lincoln Center.

Stan graduated from Corning High School in 1945.

Stan farmed with his father after graduation, then served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950-52, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.

On Jan. 23, 1956, Stan married Eleanor Miller. She preceded him in death in 1976.

Upon returning from the war, Stan worked at the Missouri Valley limestone quarry for about 11 years, and for a short time at the NFO. Then he joined the postal service, where he worked from 1964 to 1989. He retired in the position of postmaster in Corning.

On March 23, 1977, Stan married Alice Joy Brandt.

Stan was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, serving as the finance officer for the Parish Council for several years, and Knights of Columbus. He served the American Legion in both Corning and Prescott as adjutant.

Stan is survived by his wife Alice Joy Peterson; sons, Jim (wife Barb) of Los Angeles, Calif., and John (wife Becky) of Fort Worth, Texas; and family through marriage, Doug (wife Sue) Brandt of Prescott, Linda (husband Tom) Brandt O’Neall of Ames, David (wife Kathy) Brandt of New Haven, Conn., Kelley (husband Mike) Brandt Lang of Houston, Texas, and Kirk (wife Lynn) Brandt of Corning; grandchildren, Jessie, Isaac, Sara, Missy, Zach, Mindy, Amber, Bryan, Josh, Brennan, Eryk, Austin and Weston; great-grandchildren, London, Boston, Garrett, Jaxsen, Jake, Lindsey, Nolan and Lexi; sisters-in-law, Mary Peterson, Darlene Peterson Rice, Mary Olive and Phyllis Miller; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
