Elizabeth Georgialene Bolton, 82, of Urbandale, IA went peacefully home, surrounded by her loved ones at Mercy Hospice, May 1, 2013. Known to friends and family as Georgia, she was welcomed into the world as the first baby born in the Kansas City, MO metropolitan area on January 1, 1931. She was the daughter of the late George and Ethel Hibbard.
Georgia married the love of her life, Sidney Bolton in 1952 in Creston, Iowa. They lived in Creston, Iowa City, then Urbandale, Iowa sharing 56 years together.
Georgia loved and lived life to it’s fullest each day. Her love for her family, friends and serving her Lord most defined her. She expressed compassion and unconditional love for her children and grandchildren. Georgia’s caring and authentic nature touched the lives of her large circle of friends and all those she met. She was devoted to her church family and the ministries at Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Georgia had a lifelong interest in basketball and enjoyed many years as a Drake woman’s basketball team season ticket holder, attending the games with dear friends. She enjoyed tending her flower gardens, swimming, sewing, cross-stitch and cooking. Her door was always open to friends and family and she always made room “for one more” at the kitchen table. She greatly enjoyed the company of her dear friends, “The Tuesday Girls”, at their monthly lunch outings.
The fond memories of Georgia’s life are celebrated by her children, Sid and Trecie Bolton of Bettendorf, IA, Barbara and William Schoeben of Cedar Rapids, IA and Rebecca and Brad Smith of DeKalb, IL; grandchildren, Annie (Ryan) Peyton, Molly (Dustyn) Menninga and Becca Bolton and Nate Pierson; Brandon (Megan) Smith, Andrew Smith, Marcus McGlothan and Symone McGlothan; and great-grandchildren, Logan Peyton, Maxwell Peyton and Emma Mae Smith.
In agreement with Georgia’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 3, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, in Urbandale. A celebration of Georgia’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, at the church.
Georgia’s family request memorial donations be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or the America Cancer Society.
