Afton Federated Garden Club to unveil Blue Star Marker
AFTON — Afton Federated Garden Club announces plans are under way for the dedication of a Blue Star Marker to be placed at Three Mile Lake.
The public is invited to join them for the unveiling of the marker 10 a.m. May 18 (Armed Forces Day) at the campgrounds of Three Mile Lake. Bring a lawn chair.
The Blue Star Memorial program has been in existence through the garden club movement for more than 65 years. National Garden Clubs is committed to placing Blue Star Memorial markers on highways and byways in honor of the nation’s Armed Forces.
This program encompasses the entire country and honors all branches of the military and its members, past, present and future.
Afton Federated Garden Club has raised funds for the marker with the help of Endow Union County and American Legion Auxiliary and Fred N. Davis Unit No. 96 of Lorimor, as well as holding fundraisers.
Help also came from Doug Jones of Union County Conservation, Mike Eblen of Eblen Construction, who provided the stone for the marker, and Kevin Irving who mounted the marker.
