HARLAN — Creston/O-M finished in third place, one point behind runner-up Lewis Central, at the Hawkeye 10 Conference boys tennis tournament Monday.

The Red Oak Tigers claimed the championship trophy with 27 points.

Pete Walker and Hayden Berry of the Tigers took the No. 1 doubles championship with a victory over defending champions Colby Taylor and Bryce McIlravy of Creston/O-M.

“We played well to get third place,” Creston/O-M coach Kevin Cooper said. “But, really, we were just one match away from taking second place by ourselves.”

Red Oak No. 1 player Pete Walker carried the Tigers’ doubles team to victory over Creston/O-M’s defending conference champs.

“Colby and Bryce had a good day,” Cooper said, “but Pete is the best player I have seen in a long time in the Hawkeye 10. He was the difference today.”

Garret Taylor dropped a 9-8 (7-2 tiebreaker) in his fourth match at No. 1 singles. He won two matches after falling to the top seed in the opener.

Likewise, Adam Bochart fell 8-6 to Kuemper’s Mitchell Behrens to end up fourth at No. 2 singles, finishing the day at 1-2.

Jacob Caviness and Ryan Cook took fourth at No. 2 doubles. Two wins put them in the semifinals.
