The Iowa High School Athletic Association has announced boys substate soccer pairings.
In Class 2A, Creston plays Winterset at Winterset at 6:30 p.m. May 20. The winner plays Glenwood at Glenwood on May 22. The winner then plays Harlan, ADM or Dallas Center-Grimes at Glenwood on May 25.
Currently, Glenwood is ranked seventh in Class 2A, ADM is No. 12 and DC-G is No. 17.
In Class 1A, Nodaway Valley opens at home against Des Moines Christian at 6:30 p.m. May 20. The winner plays Atlantic at Atlantic on May 22. The substate final is May 25 against Kuemper Catholic, West Central Valley or North Polk.
Pitcher/first baseman Leah Kipfer was named to a utility position, and outfielder Ashley Brandt, the region’s leading hitter (.539), was named to an outfield spot as first-team all-region selection from Southwestern Community College’s softball team.
Second-team selections from the Spartans were infielder Danyielle Barger, who had four home runs in the regional tournament, and pitcher Courtney Wagner.
Earning honorable mention were catcher Brooke Wolf, outfielders Dominique Tolle and Tessa Otto of Murray, and infielders Hannah Sneed and Carla Smith of Creston.
Also named to the first all-region team was DMACC freshman infielder Katlin Briley of Creston. Two first-team pitchers were DMACC teammate Mari Silliman of Winterset, and Kirkwood freshman Amber Logemann of Earlham. Logemann was named Pitcher of the Year.
Creston/O-M head football coach Brian Morrison is hosting a mandatory parents meeting 6 p.m. May 17 at Creston High School auditorium.
“Before the summer begins I feel it is important that we meet to ensure you are well informed of schedules and expectations of the program,” Morrison said.
Topics to be covered include summer weights, spring fundraiser for camp, team football camp at Northwest Missouri State, 7-on-7 practices, team handbook, lettering criteria, Creston/O-M football camp, regular season schedule and expectations for the upcoming football season.
NWMS camp forms and fundraising are due May 23. The fundraiser will be handed out at the parent meeting.
Eight weeks of summer weights begin June 3, meeting Monday through Thursday. Groups of students based on activities are currently signing up for time slots.

Creston eighth-grader Hannah Hood, who already owns the school shot put record, set a new Creston eighth-grade discus record with a throw of 96-8 at the Hawkeye 10 meet.
It breaks the previous record of 97-4 set in 2005 by Aubrey Pendegraft.
The Creston vs. Glenwood girls tennis meet scheduled Thursday was rained out and will not be made up.
