The Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union announced Friday afternoon the Class 3A qualifiers for the Coed State Track Meet.

The Creston boys track team came home from Thursday's State Qualifying Meet knowing it had automatically qualified four events to the state meet.

Automatically qualifying for the state meet was the 4x800 relay of Bryce Briley, Travis Miller, Briar Evans and Jay Wolfe, Brandon Phipps in the 3,200 meter run, Luke Neitzel in the long jump and Wolfe in the 800 meter run.

Friday, the Panthers learned they would be taking three more events.

Qualifying based on having one of the eight best non-automatic qualifying times from across the state from among all the Class 3A State Qualifying Meets was Wolfe in the 400 meter dash, Evans in the 400 meter hurdles and the 4x400 relay team of Briley, Evans, Maxx Walters and Wolfe.

Wolfe qualified with the 15th fastest time in the state in the 400 meter dash, running 51.77. He will also run in the fast heat of the 800 meter run, with his qualifying time of 2:01.05 ranking 9th.

Phipps qualified 12th in the 3,200 meter run with his time of 10:14.28. Phipps, who finished fourth in the 1,600 meter run, just missed out on an at-large berth in that event. Philip Sciranko of Harlan, who finished third ahead of Phipps, took the final qualifying spot in that event.

Evans earned the final at-large qualifying spot in the 400 meter hurdles, running 58.18 to finish fourth at the Glenwood State Qualifying Meet. That time ranks him 23rd in qualifying.

The 4x400 relay team, which finished third Thursday night, qualifies in 16th place, easily earning an at-large qualifying spot with its time of 3:33.20.

The 4x800 relay team qualified with the fourth-fastest time in the state on Thursday, which is also the fourth-fastest time run in Class 3A this season. The Panthers ran 8:11.16 in breaking the school record in the event.

Three of the top six qualifying times from Thursday night came from the State Qualifying Meet in Glenwood.

Neitzel, who won the State Qualifying Meet Thursday, qualifies in the fourth position in Class 3A with his jump of 21-5.50. Three of the top six State Qualifying Meet performances in the long jump came from the meet in Glenwood.

For the Creston girls, sophomore Maria Mostek was the only automatic qualifier, as she finished second in the 1,500 meter run Thursday.

Mostek qualified 17th in the event, running 5:15.72. Senior Emily Wignall, who finished third on Thursday, missed earning an at-large berth by less than one second.

The Creston girls 4x800 relay team, which also broke a school record in running 9:47.41, earned an at-large berth after finishing third Thursday night. The top three times in the state from Thursday all came from the State Qualifying Meet in Glenwood.

Members of that relay team were Natalie Mostek, Wignall, Maria Mostek and Taylor Briley.
