East Union High School graduate Taylor Mayne has been selected to participate in the program Flagstaff in Fidenza. Mayne is a student at Northern Arizona University School of Music in Flagstaff, Ariz.

The program has been in existence since 2007 in Fidenza, Italy, which is the area where opera composer Giuseppe Verdi was born and lived most of his life. The program was started by Nando Schellen, artistic director, and his wife Deborah Raymond, program coordinator, both professors at Northern Arizona University.

Through the program, Mayne will spend nearly four weeks learning vocal technique, coaching and performance in opera, art song and oratorio. International faculty from the United States, Canada, Italy and the Netherlands will be leading the program. Mayne will sing in concerts in Fidenza and surrounding towns.

In celebration of Giuseppe’s 200th birthday, students in the program will be performing his opera “La Traviata.”
