BOONE — DMACC sophomore Shelby Kramer and freshman Katlin Briley, both of Creston, are among members of the Des Moines Area Community College softball team named to the Region XI All-Region Academic Team as first-team selections.

To earn first-team honors, students had to achieve a grade point average of 3.5 to 4.0. Second team honors went to those who had a GPA of 3.0 to 3.49.

Sophomore Mari Silliman of Winterset was also among the first-team selections. DMACC ended the season at 38-9 and a No. 6 ranking in the NJCAA Division II poll. The Bears lost in the regional tournament finals to third-ranked Kirkwood.

State guidelines

DES MOINES — Fans attending this weekend’s State Coed Track & Field Championships may experience delays at the admission and entrance gates of Drake Stadium.

Security workers at Drake Stadium will be inspecting bags and will enforce University rules that prohibit particular items inside the gates of the stadium. Any bag is subject to search at anytime. In addition, the list of items not allowed inside the gates is on the websites of the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Prohibited items are: Back-packs and large bags (all bags are subject to search at any time); bottles; alcoholic beverages; coolers and thermoses; lawn chairs; outside food and drinks; stadium/bleacher back seats over 18 inches wide; strollers; tents; camera tripods; umbrellas; weapons of any kind.

Drake University will not provide storage of prohibited items and assumes no liability for items left unattended at gates.

Permitted items inside Drake Stadium are rain apparel, blankets, stadium/ bleacher back seats less than 18 inches including those with arm rests.
