NORWALK — The Osceola Clarke doubles team of Kylar McCann and Libby Bemis qualified for state as regional champions here Thursday.

Creston’s unseeded doubles team of freshmen Caitlin McIlravy and Jenna Taylor placed fourth to lead the Panthers in singles and doubles competition. Those finishing first or second advanced to state tournament play.

McIlravy and Taylor won three matches before losing to McCann and Bemis, 6-1, 6-0. Boone’s third-seeded team of senior Kelli Greiner and junior Sierra Leeds then topped the Panther freshmen in the match for third place.

“Making some big upsets today, this dynamic duo sailed all the way to the semifinals,” coach Amanda Plymale said. “This young team has a very bright future.”

Senior Audrey Fyock rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in her first singles match against Clarke’s Kacey Klemesrud, before losing to eventual runner-up Ellen Chalstrom of Fort Dodge St. Edmond.

“Audrey had a great first match,” Plymale said. “Her loss to Chalstrom was a tough matchup.”

Senior Emma Johnson won two matches before losing to fourth-seeded Brenna Ripp of Ballard.

“Emma had a tough bracket today for her last postseason play,” Plymale said. “She played hard and was able to close out two solid wins.”

Playing in doubles, Ashley Harris and Alli Thomsen won their first match before being defeated by the runner-up team of Alana Bendler and Jenna Leland of Ballard.

“Thomsen and Harris have done very well this postseason, for only playing together for one week,” Plymale said. “This duo also has a bright future next year.”
