Earlham 9, Nodaway Valley 1

EARLHAM — Abbey Murphy did it all for the undefeated Earlham softball team Wednesday in a 9-1 victory over Nodaway Valley.

In addition to pitching a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts, Murphy hit a home run and triple for the Cardinals. Hannah Murphy went 4-4 and Bri Arnburg had two hits for Earlham.

Emily Huntington hit a home run in the seventh inning to break up Murphy’s shutout. Paige McElfish allowed 12 hits with two strikeouts an four walks.

Earlham did most of its scoring in the late innings, tallying three runs in the fourth, two more in the fifth and four in the sixth.

“We played with them for the first three innings, then they put up three in the fourth and six more in the next two innings,” said NV coach Ray Stewart. “They are a good ball team and we knew that going in.”
