After battling 12 bands in a series of competitions in one month, hometown boys in the band Templeton Fade rose to the top.
Templeton Fade — a high-energy rock band, which originated in Creston — is made up of Todd Kinkade, Mike Meek, Luke Parks and Trevor Kinkade.
After radio station KGGO put out a request for applications and demos, the band decided to submit a song. Templeton Fade became semi-finalist in the first round May 8, won subsequent battles on May 14 and 22, and, eventually, found themselves playing in the finals at the 2013 Iowa Grand Motorcycle Rally on May 30 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton.
Templeton Fade championed the event and won the ‘Battle of the Bands’ against Suite Little Sister, an all-female ‘80s rock group from Waterloo.
“It’s a big deal for us,” said bassists and backup vocalist Todd Kinkade.
Kinkade said Templeton Fade will take part in Rock Cornstalk June 27 in Urbandale.
Rock Cornstalk 2013 is an all-day concert featuring 15 local bands and national acts. Proceeds from Rock Cornstalk will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Children’s and Families of Iowa, Autism Society of Iowa, Children’s Miracle Network and Easter Seals of Iowa.
“Rock Cornstalk is going to feature bands from all across the state,” said Kinkade. “But, the most important part are the charities it will help.”
Kinkade said his sound and production company, 667 Entertainment, will be providing services for Rock Cornstalk.
Templeton Fade, which played Creston’s Party in the Park in 2012 with Foghat, will headline Creston Elms Club 5th Annual Bike Night June 28. Visit Templeton Fade’s website www.templetonfaderocks.com to learn more and watch past live performances.
