Mildred Ripperger, 92, of Ankeny, formerly of Afton, died June 8, 2013, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Afton. The Rev. Ken Halbur will officiate. Burial will be at St. Edwards Cemetery, west of Afton. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, June 10, with family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and 7:30 p.m. Christian Wake Service, all at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., Afton. Mildred Veronica (Dittmer) Ripperger, daughter of Rose Catherine (Schurman) and Frank Joseph Dittmer, was born Aug. 28, 1920, in Warren County.
Mildred was educated in Rosemount Catholic School in Warren County.
On April 27, 1946, Mildred married Giles Ripperger in Afton. They lived most of their life in the Afton area. Mildred was a homemaker and also worked in Murray early on, then at the Afton Care Center. She later retired.
They moved away in 2000. Giles died May 2011.
Mildred was a member of the St. Edwards Catholic Church, the Altar Society and former member of Dodge Center Church Auxiliary.
Mildred is survived her daughters, Patricia (husband John) Hart of St. Joseph, Mo., Linda (husband Mike) Landers of Des Moines and Sandy Konkler of Des Moines; brother Loren “Dick” (wife Ione) Dittmer of Des Moines; sister Edna Baumgarten of Knoxville; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a step-great-granddaughter and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Mary Ellen Smith August 2009, four brothers, Alfred, Paul, LaVerne and Lloyd “Slim” Dittmer and four sisters, Bertha Veach, Laura Ripperger, Florence Callen and Marjorie Baumgarten.
