GLENWOOD — Creston freshman teams were defeated by Glenwood Thursday.

In baseball, the Rams won, 11-2.

Creston’s Calton O’Reilly hit an inside-the-park home run. Brendon McDowell pitched four innings, allowing nine runs with five walks and five strikeouts. Downey pitched a scoreless inning.

“I thought both McDowell and Downey pitched really well and were throwing strikes,” said Creston coach Anthony Donahoo. “Just like Kuemper, we let them have a big second inning and then had to play catch up. We got plenty of people on base. WE just need to learn how to finish.”

An informal three-inning second game was held, with no scoring statistics available.

The Glenwood freshman softball team won two games, 12-0 and 15-5.

Glenwood’s Van Wes struck out seven in a one-hitter in the opener. Hannah Fogle’s single in the first inning was Creston’s only hit. Fogle also had two stolen bases after her walk in the third. Cammy Rutherford had one stolen base after a walk, and Kristie Hallet reached on a walk to lead off the third.

Morghan Frey pitched for the Panthers. She gave up 12 runs on nine hits, three walks and a strikeout. Errors hurt the Panthers, as Glenwood scored only three earned runs.

Creston had six hits in the second game, including two by Aleisha Larkin. Getting one each were Cammy Rutherford, Morghan Frey, Alexus Larkin and Madison Callahan.

Rutherford and Fogle shared pitching duties for Creston. In two innings Rutherford gave up four runs on two hits and three walks. Entering in the third, Fogle struck out two and got an out on a flyout.

The Rams got hot in the fourth. In all, the Rams had 11 runs on five hits as Fogle struck out two.

Coach Robyn Ploeger said the fourth inning was lost by errors early, then a walk loaded the bases and two straight hits ignited the Rams’ rally.

Creston had three more errors along with three additional Glenwood hits.
