Get out the BBQ grill this Sunday

Sunday is Father’s Day.

It looks like summer is starting to set in and the temps are looking to be in the mid to high 80s, so it should be a good time to have a Father’s Day BBQ.

I’m sure some folks will take the easier way out and hit their favorite restaurant or have Mom prepare a nice meal. So don’t forget “dear old dad” this Sunday on his special day.

I look for the golf course to be crowded!

Flags

Friday is Flag Day — always a wonderful time to support the American flag.

The flags should be out in full force around Creston with several civic groups taking turns to put out the flags on various occasions. It’s always nice to see them flying at homes around the area.

Relay

The annual Creston Relay for Life event is Friday night going until Saturday morning at the high school football field.

There was a nice rundown of all the events in a special section of Tuesday’s newspaper. The surrounding community does a nice job of supporting the event.

I always try to take time to walk by all the luminaries.

The event is a nice way to honor those who are battling the disease and to those who fought the good fight.

We know someone who has had cancer and the world will be a much better place when this terrible disease is eradicated.

Great concert coming

The annual McKinley Park concert will be June 22. There is a great lineup of country singers and bands for the event.

Country seems to be real hot right now, and the local lineup will be a good mix for all who attend.

Sydney Lett is a 17-year-old from Des Moines and, besides playing Creston, will be at the Iowa State Fair singing this year.

Rebyl Road is just back from Florida and opening up for Kenny Chesney.

The Rumbley Brothers hail from the Leon and Osceola area. They have a good following from throughout the area.

Jimmie Van Zant, the headliner, has just put out a new album called “Feels Like Freedom.” If you go to his site www.jimmievanzantband.org you can listen to a few tracks.

Tickets for Party in the Park are only $15 the next few days and $20 the day of the show. You can’t beat that price for a country show with four super acts. There will be plenty of food and refreshments with the gates opening at 4 p.m., and the first act at 5 p.m.

Here is a chance to help out McKinley Park and have a great time doing it. The concerts at McKinley Park keep getting better every year.

Duck guys

I see the Duck Dynasty guys of A&E TV fame are getting more and more products at Walmart. They now have products in six departments and it will soon be 13!

I had a chance to see the guys in person down at Taladaga last fall. They are just as funny in person as they are on the show.

One of the Duck Commander employees is John Godwin who has a bunch of relatives here in Iowa.

I see the fourth season may be delayed because the family wants a large raise to keep doing the show. It is the top-rated show on cable TV, so I would guess they’ll get their money and the fourth season will proceed.

Next time you need a bandage look for the ones that have the picture of the Duck Dynasty guys on them!

Thought for the week: True politeness is perfect ease and freedom. It simply consists in treating others just as you love to be treated yourself. — Earl of Chesterfield
