WINTERSET — Winterset had a hot-hitting day against a pitching-depleted Creston freshman team in a 21-2 victory over the Panthers.
Tom Steinbach had three walks and five runs allowed in one inning on the mound for the Panthers. Tyler Downey yielded eight runs with a walk in one inning. Brenden McDowell pitched three innings with eight runs allowed and one walk.
With so many pitchers busy in JV and varsity action during the week, coach Anthony Donahoo said the team made the best of the situation and kept competing.
“You never want to see your players get in a situation like this, but it was really rewarding to see them never quit,” Donahoo said. “We only walked five batters all game, and I thought we were pitching strikes. The problem was, Winterset has some really good batters. Next week we’ll get some great practices in and come back stronger.”
