Thayer Alumni Banquet
The Thayer alumni banquet was held June 8 at Lorimor Community Center with 91 members and guests attending. Lorimor Boosters served the meal. The meeting was conducted by Dwayne Henrichs. Linda Huffman gave the secretary’s and treasurer’s reports.

Linda Huffman conducted the annual game of Thayer trivia. Trivia winners were the team of Bob Simon, Darlene Henrichs, Wanda McIntire and Lyle Hannah.
A slate made from Thayer School blackboards, donated by the Lundquist family, was auctioned by Jim McGuire and Darrell Perry. Nancy Medders was the winning bidder.
Bob Hansen of Peoria, Ariz., was honored as the member traveling the farthest.
Lucile Bellamy presented a painting to Dwayne and Darlene Henrichs for their years of helping with the banquet.
A drawing of door prizes was held and the following gifts were presented: Gary Becker, Harold Henrichs, Jack Quee, Jerry Becker and Oren Jeter: paintings by Lucile Bellamy; Don Roan, Pleasant Valley Church Cookbook; Patricia Laird and Chuck Lundquist, books titled “Outside Privies” and “Dinner Pails,” donated by Ruby Crittenden Stephens; Dick Moffitt, travel mug; and Bill Bailey and Nola Vorrath, coffee mugs.
Dwayne Henrichs and Carol Wise will serve as cochairpersons for 2014 with Linda Huffman serving as secretary/treasurer.
Next year’s banquet will be June 14, 2014, at Lorimor Community Center.

Shannon City Alumni Banquet
Sixty-seven alumni and guests attended the 103rd Shannon City Alumni Banquet held May 25 at the Eagle’s Club in Creston. Cochairwomen were Bonnie Ergenbright Baker (1959), Linda Foy James (1960) of Creston and Ann Comer Sanson (1959) of Clarinda. Registration started at 3 p.m. with a 5 p.m. supper. Linda James gave the welcome, and Ron Sanson reminded attendees of the veterans who have served the Armed Forces, before giving the invocation.
Ann Sanson served as the MC for the evening and thanked everyone for making the evening a success.
Graduates attending were celebrating their 55th, 60th, 65th and70th banquets. They were: (1958) Ella Jean Eklund Hoffman (Urbandale) and Ronnie Simpson (Shannon City); (1953) Shirley Woosley Ide (Shannon City); (1948) Joan Woosley Goodale (Diagonal), Velma Swinehart Frank (Winterset), Althea Means Hoffman (Shannon City), Audrey Comer Lewellen (Omaha, Neb.), Veva Short Vorhies (Tingley); (1943) Emmett Eagan (Creston), Jeraldine Woosley Scherer (Shannon City) and Merlin Swanson (Rock Island, Ill.).
Baker, James and Sanson will be in charge of the 104th banquet next year. The date has been set for May 24, 2014, at the Eagle’s Club, starting with registration at 3 p.m. and supper being served at 5 p.m.
