Lenox sweeps EU

LENOX — Lenox posted wins of 13-9 and 13-1 over East Union here on Tuesday.Bailey Rainforth and Lauren Hensley each picked up a win in the pitching circle for the Tigers.

In the first contest, Madison Douglas and Katie Dukes each hit home runs and both drove in three runs for the game. Shantelle Brown added a triple and two RBI, while Emily Powell doubled.

The Tigers recorded five extra base hits in coming from behind for the win.

Chay Blondowski tripled and drove in two runs for the Eagles, while Danielle Riley had a double and two RBI. Kaeleigh Ballentine, Brittany Malone, Rochelle Means and Mara Weis each drove in one run.

Riley took the loss, giving up just four earned runs.

In the nightcap, Hannah Maxa drove in four runs, Brown drove in three and Hensley drove in two runs. Douglas and Aurora Arevalo each doubled.

Ballentine drove in the lone East Union run in the nightcap, as Stacia Bryson was charged with the loss in the pitching circle.

“Lauren Hensley battled through injury to toss an excellent game as the Tiger bats stayed hot against EU pitching,” Lenox head coach Tom Shields said.

Lenox improved to 12-5 overall and 6-3 in the Pride of Iowa Conference.

Nodaway Valley 11, O-M 5

ORIENT — Nodaway Valley pounded out 16 hits in backing Megan Feick earning her first varsity win of the year in an 11-5 triumph at Orient-Macksburg Wednesday night.

“Freshman Sadie Harter had a good all-around game for us,” said NV coach Ray Stewart. “Besides three hits, she had five assists on defense.”

Harter was 3-for-5 with a double for NV, which improved to 9-12 heading into Thursday’s doubleheader at East Union. Josie Carter, Paige McElfish and Emily Huntington each had two hits. Harter and McElfish tripled. Hitting doubles were Harter, Huntington, Christine Gross and Rachel Jacobson. Huntington and Gross each drove in two runs.

Feick allowed six hits, walked one and struck out one. The teams combined for 14 errors. Tara Guion took the loss. Jasmine Ruckmann was 3-4 for O-M. Lisa Moss had two hits. Harper Spurrier hit a double with an RBI.

Corning 10, CAM 1

CORNING — The Corning defense played errorless behind a two-hit pitching performance by Ella Akin in Wednesday’s 10-1 victory over CAM.

Akin fanned 10 while walking only one and allowing one earned run. At the plate she was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Sydney Pontius was 4-4 with a double, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Sydney Maynes and Ashtyn Grossnickle had two hits each.

“I was very happy with how well we played don defense and how we were able to score 10 runs without hitting the ball extremely well as a team,” coach Allen Naugle said.
