Ron Brownlee Orient

Ronald Brownlee, 71, of Orient died June 18, 2013, at his home in Orient, after a one-year battle with leukemia.

Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Crest Baptist Church, 1211 N. Poplar St., Creston. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Spindler will officiate. Flag presentation will be conducted by Theodore J. Martens VFW Post 1797 of Creston. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, Creston. Memorials may be given to the Crest building fund or the family to be decided later. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Ronald C. Brownlee, son of Marjorie (Yarrington) and K. Eldon Brownlee, was born Nov. 29, 1941, in Creston.

Ron was educated in the Bridgewater- and Greenfield-area schools.

Ron left home at the age of 15 to live and work with Elmer and Rhea Morgan of rural Greenfield.

Ron served in the Army Reserves from 1963-1969.

In February 1966, Ron moved to start farming on his own.

On April 3, 1966, Ron married Glenda Faye Lightle in Macedonia. They made their home on the farm in the Orient area and lived there for more than 47 years.

Ron was a member of Crest Baptist Church in Creston, Adair County Pork Producers, Adair County Soil Conservation, 4-H leader, Adair County Swine Department, where he served as co-superintendent, served on the board of Conservation Districts of Iowa (CDI), American Simmental Association and Adair County Beef Producers.

Ron is survived by his wife Glenda Brownlee of Orient; sons, Kevin Brownlee (significant other Cammy Moon) of Creston and Dan (wife Megan) Brownlee of Macksburg; brothers, Robert (wife Carolyn) Brownlee of Cumberland and Russell (wife Patty) Brownlee of Missouri; sisters, Marlene Baumfalk of Osceola, Charlene (husband Morris) Swain of Cumberland and Darlene (husband Dale) Bowman of Corning; and grandchildren, Katie, Alex and Adam Brownlee and Alissa and Leah Brownlee.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, David and Edna Lightle; and brother-in-law Norris Baumfalk.
