Creston freshman baseball and softball teams played Glenwood on Thursday.

In baseball, Glenwood claimed two victories by scores of 11-2 and 9-4.

The Panthers had no hits in the opening game, reaching base only on three dropped third strikes. Colton Bolinger was the starting pitcher with one inning by Tyler Downey.

Brenden McDowell pitched five innings in the second game with six strikeouts and three walks in five innings. Kendrick Davis had two run-scoring singles for the Panthers.

“The kids had fun playing and it showed,” coach Anthony Donahoo said. “The score doesn’t represent how close these two games were. We had an inning in each game that kind of got away from us. Other than that, they played really good baseball.”

Softball

Glenwood won both softball games, 15-0 and 9-3.

Hannah Hood was 2-for-2 at the plate in the first game, and Cammy Rutherford had the other Creston hit. Morghan Frey was the starting pitcher with a strikeout and five walks. Rutherford relieved her in the first inning, finishing with four earned runs, five hits allowed, two strikeouts and three walks. Mattie Wheeler led the defense with a double play in the third inning.

Creston had improved hitting in the second game. Cydney Seley was 3-3 with an RBI. Mattie Wheeler had two walks and an RBI single, and Rutherford added an RBI single. Hannah Hood also had a base hit.

Hannah Fogle pitched three innings for the Panthers. She gave up four runs on five hits with four walks and a strikeout. Frey pitched two innings, yielding five runs on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

Creston plays at Winterset Tuesday and is home against Clarinda on Wednesday.
