HUMESTON — Six runs in the fifth inning locked up Friday’s 13-0 win over Mormon Trail for Murray (15-4).
Kate Patton had three hits including a two-run homer. She scored four runs and drove in three.
Danielle McIntosh had two hits and two RBI for Murray, Cydney Hembry added a double and triple and Chellsea Jones had a bases-clearing double in the fifth. Patton improved to 8-0 as a pitcher with six strikeouts in a two hitter.
SE Warren 8, Corning 1
MILO — Southeast Warren’s bunting and running attack forced Corning mistakes in an 8-1 victory over the Red Raiders Friday night.
“Ella pitched a good game but we struggled to make plays behind her on a hot night after playing a doubleheader the night before,” said Corning coach Allen Naugle. “Offensively we hit the ball well but we just couldn’t put together a big inning.”
Akin allowed only two earned runs while yielding five hits with three strikeouts for Corning (7-12 overall, 4-7 conference).
Kelsie Kinman was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Sydney Maines was 1-3 with and RBI.
Wayne 8, Lenox 0
LENOX — Lenox had only one baserunner against one of the top pitchers in the Pride of Iowa. Wayne’s Breanna Fortune had eight strikeouts and no walks in the one-hit shutout as the Falcons prevailed, 8-0.
Katie Dukes had Lenox’s only hit. Lauren Hensley had one strikeout and one walk in pitching four innings, while reliever Bailey Rainforth fanned two and walked three as Lenox fall to 7-5 in the conference.
GREENFIELD — Van Meter defeated Tri-Center 10-6 for first place and Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton topped Nodaway Valley 7-1 for third place in the Nodaway Valley Classic Saturday.
AHST defeated Lenox 16-8 for fifth place. Other scores were Nodaway Valley 9, West Central Valley 3; Van Meter 11, AHST 0; Tri-Center over Adair-Casey by forfeit; Exira/EH-K 7, Lenox 2; Van Meter 10, Nodaway Valley 3; AHST 9, West Central Valley 7; Tri-Center 10, Exira/EH-K 0; Lenox over Adair-Casey by forfeit.
In the third place game, state strikeouts leader Rachel Smith of Exira/EH-K fanned nine Nodaway Valley batters with no walks and three hits allowed in the 7-1 victory.
Smith also had a double, single and two RBI for the Spartans (17-6). Kennedy Madson added a triple. Chassea Nelson and Kara Collins each had two hits against NV pitcher Paige McElfish, who finished with three strikeouts and two walks. Megan Eblen tripled and Sadie Harter had an RBI for NV (10-15).
Earlier, Martensdale-St. Marys whipped Nodaway Valley 15-1. Riley Verwers pitched a three-hitter for the undefeated Blue Devils. Jamie Jordan and Nicole Shutt had two doubles each for M-SM. Kylah Schumacher and Schutt had three hits each.
Van Meter knocked off NV 10-3 on the way to winning the tournament. McElfish blasted her sixth home run of the season in the fourth inning for NV. Sydney Reeves had two hits and Megan Feick took the pitching loss.
McElfish had a solid game, knocking in four runs with two hits and earning the pitching victory as Nodaway Valley opened the tourney with a 9-3 win over West Central Valley. Megan McIntosh doubled and singled. McElfish fanned seven in the five-hit victory.
Lenox scored eight runs on 15 hits but lost 16-8 to AHST in the fifth-place game. Fourteen errors were the downfall of Lenox (13-9). Hannah Maxa doubled and drove in three Lenox runs. Shantelle Brown and Aurora Arevalo had three hits each. Madison Douglas hit a triple and Sydney Baker doubled. Bailey Rainforth pitched four innings for Lenox and Katie Dukes pitched two innings.
Earlier, Exira/EH-K beat Lenox, 7-2. Smith fanned seven, walked four and allowed three hits in picking up the victory. Defensive lapses hurt the Tigers again, with 12 errors. Aurora Arevalo had two RBI. Lauren Hensley took the loss with no earned runs, four strikeouts and no walks.
BEDFORD — Paige Daughton and Brook Rychnovsky each had two hits and an RBI for Mount Ayr in a 4-3 win over Bedford in the Bedford Classic Saturday. Pitcher Shelbie Greenlee fanned four with no walks in pitching the victory.
Earlier, Griswold defeated the Raiderettes, 15-3. Allie Shields and Kirsten Dolecheck had Mount Ayr’s only hits. Eighth-graders Tessa Shields and Macy Larsen shared pitching duties.
Cheyenne Haveman had two hits in Mount Ayr’s 7-0 win over Stanton. Greenlee struck out nine in pitching the one-hit shutout.
Interstate 35 6, Mt. Ayr 1
TRURO — Paige Daughton doubled for an RBI in Mount Ayr in a 6-1 loss to Interstate 35 Friday night. Macy Larsen scored the lone Raiderette run and had one of the team’s four hits.
Pitcher Shelbie Greenlee allowed 10 hits and three earned runs with a walk and no strikeouts.
Bedford 10, Mt. Ayr 3
BEDFORD — Bedford opened up a 10-1 lead in the fourth inning on the way to posting a 10-3 victory over Mount Ayr Thursday.
Morgan Quick was 4-for-4 for Mount Ayr in the loss, including a triple. Paige Daughton also tripled. Pitcher Shelbie Greenlee allowed seven hits, only two earned runs with four strikeouts and a walk.
