Cyclist on morning ride fatally injured

LENOX — After he was reported missing, a Lenox man was found fatally injured.

Gerald O. Williams, 58, of Lenox died Saturday morning after he was struck by a 2009 Chevrolet, while riding his bicycle east on J10 east of Vail Avenue in Lenox.

According to Iowa State Trooper Jonathan Salyers, Williams was an avid cyclist and was reported missing after he did not return home from riding Saturday morning.

With the assistance of the Taylor County Ambulance, Lenox Fire
Department and members of the Lenox Public Works Department a search was conducted. The Lenox Police Department, Taylor County Sheriffs Office and Iowa State Patrol conducted an investigation at the scene.

No comment was made by Salyers as to the identity of the driver, but information was
obtained which led to the identification of a driver and the vehicle involved.

“The accident is still under under investigation,” said Salyers.
