Norma Smith Mount Ayr

Norma Smith, 89, of Mount Ayr died June 19, 2013, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr. The Rev. Chris Conklin will officiate. Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the American Legion Auxiliary scholarship fund. Online condolences may be left at www.watsonarmstrongfh.com.

Norma Marie Smith, daughter of Ida Marie (Simpson) and Harry Ransome Searles, was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Blockton.

Norma graduated from Blockton High School in 1940.

On Sept. 20, 1941, Norma married Howard Smith in Princeton, Mo.

In earlier years, Norma worked at Ringgold County Hospital and Ringgold County engineers and treasurers offices.

In 1968, Norma was elected as Ringgold County recorder, a position she held for 18 years.

On Aug. 28, 1976, Norma married Homer McClintock. They were married for 10 years.

On Jan. 6, 1996, Norma married Ray Pottorff.

Norma was a member of the First Christian Church for more than 60 years and American Legion Auxiliary.

Norma is survived by her children, Stephen Smith and Mary Jane (Jon) Thompson; grandchildren, Todd Smith, Angela (Bill) Boord, Troy (Kari) Smith and Ryan (Melissa) Smith; great-grandchildren, Jacob Parker, Emily and Nathan Smith, Stephanie and Justin Boord and Elizabeth, Evan and Gabe Smith; and daughters-in-law, Shirley Shaw and Sharon Smith.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son Don Smith; sister Naomi Shafer; and brother Harold Searles.
