The Southwestern men’s basketball team has signed guard Richard Desvarieux from McArthur High School in Coconut Creek, Fla.
Desvarieux anchored a squad that won its district championship for the first time in 80 years. Coach Mike Holmes said Desvarieux’s skills contributing to being named to the Brevard County All-Star Team are his ability to defend, rebound from the guard position and finish around the basket.
Also recently signed is senior point-guard and 3-point shooter Nick Lenhard of Falcon High School in Falcon, Colo., which is a suburb of Colorado Springs. He becomes the third Colorado player to play for the Spartans in three years. Coach Holmes said Lenhard is a heady point guard able to make in-game adjustments, and “ideal for our system.”
Coach Holmes is finishing a large recruiting class to replace nine sophomores from the 2012-13 squad. He said all-region guard Marquealis Edwards of Minneapolis is now a member of the University of Mary team, a Division II team in Bismarck, N.D.
Devin Kastrup of Colorado is now a member of Western State College in Gunnison, Colo. Guard Marcus Littleton of Norwalk joined the William Penn University team in Oskaloosa.
