JOLIET, Ill. — Nodaway Valley senior Colton Graham and Mount Ayr senior Braydee Poore both represented their schools on Team Iowa at the 2013 Senior All-Star Spotlight Meet here at St. Francis University on June 8.
Graham became the first Nodaway Valley athlete to compete in the 3,200 meter run at the event, while Poore became the first to represent the Raiders since the meet began in 1999.
Graham, who broke the Nodaway Valley school record in the 3,200 meter run this past season and also competed in the event at the Coed State Track Meet, finished seventh at the spotlight meet, running 11:14.49.
Poore, a former state champion and two-time state meet runner-up in the high jump, who also owns a second-place and third-place finish at the Drake Relays and a second-place finish at the Kansas Relays, finished fifth in the high jump competition, clearing 6-4.
He also competed on Team Iowa’s B team in the shuttle hurdle relay, helping his team to a fourth-place finish in 1:03.13. Poore ran one of his fastest splits ever (15.4) in the event.
While neither Graham nor Poore performed as well as they would have liked to, both agreed that they had a great time at the meet, meeting athletes from around Iowa and from Illinois and Wisconsin.
“It was a fine showcase of senior athletes from Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin competing on the blue oval in Joliet,” Mount Ayr head track coach Brad Elliott said. “Many performances were close to state all-time bests, with a handfull of meet records broken.”
