Corning 3, Shenandoah 2

CORNING — Corning broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning to beat Hawkeye 10 opponent Shenandoah Wednesday.

Taylor Gaule got a two-out hit, stole second and scored on a timely hit by Kelsey Anstey. Gaule finished 3-for-4 with two steals and two runs scored. Sydney Maynes hit a home run. Winning pitcher Ella Akin allowed one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts.

Nodaway Valley 7, Mt. Ayr 1

GREENFIELD — A four-run sixth inning by Nodaway Valley broke open a 3-1 game Thursday.

Megan Feick had three hits and Rachel Jacobson had a good night in the field for the Wolverines. Winning pitcher Paige McElfish had two hits and held the Raiderettes to five hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Greene took the loss with eight strikeouts and no walks.

NV’s Emily Huntington and Mount Ayr’s Morgan Quick each hit doubles. Sadie Harter added a pair of hits.

Corning 3,

East Union 2

AFTON — Corning played strong defense behind the nine-strikeout performance of pitcher Ella Akin in the conference victory Thursday.

Akin had one walk. Danielle Riley took the loss, yielding 11 hits. Other East Union statistics weren’t available at press time.

Dakota Sleep, Kelsie Kinman and Akin each had two hits for Corning. Sydney Pontius doubled.
