GREENFIELD — Come learn about careers in veterinary medicine at the Adair County Fair Iowa Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) veterinary camp.

The IVMA veterinary camp will be held 10 a.m. July 21 in the east varied industries building on Adair County Fairgrounds in Greenfield. This camp is free to those who sign up, but does not include the price of admission to the county fair.

Students ages 14-18 will experience what it is like to become a veterinarian by doing hands-on activities that include performing physical exams on small animals, suturing, drawing blood, bandaging, giving injections, interpreting radiographs, endotracheal tube insertion and practicing biosecurity protocols, as well as having some hands-on activities with fresh specimens.

Local veterinarians, veterinary technicians and veterinary students will be hosting the event. The camps will also provide an opportunity to ask about veterinary school, preparing for college and veterinary curriculum, the application process, life as a veterinarian, career opportunities in the field of veterinary medicine and chances to be involved in the veterinary field while still in high school.

Go to the IVMA website: to sign up. Space is limited to 30 students. Also “Like” their page on Facebook to see pictures and updated info about the veterinary camp:
