Leonard Clifford Page, 79, of Lenox, died after a motor vehicle accident 5:44 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 25, mile marker 27 approximately one-half mile south of Highway 34.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, Page, driving a 2002 Ford south on Highway 25, for unknown reasons crossed the center line and struck a 2007 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer head on, driven north on 25 by David Irwin Werner, 59, of Mason City. Page had to be extricated from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

First responders from Creston and Lenox fire departments, Greater Regional Medical Center and Lenox ambulances, Lenox Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Adams and Union county sheriff departments were called to the scene. Afton Police Department assisted. Taylor County Sheriff responded later.

Highway 25 south of Highway 34 was closed for approximately one hour.

Creston Fire Department used absorbent to soak up diesel fuel leaking from the semi and prevent it from getting in the ditch and water streams.

The accident is still under investigation.
