Robert “Bob” Roland, 58, of Creston died July 1, 2013, at Greater Regional Medical Center.
Celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., with military honors by Theodore J. Martens VFW Post No. 1797. Dr. Dale Minner of Creston will officiate. Robert’s body will be cremated after the service. Open visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Friday with family present 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Robert “Bob” Eric Roland, son of Loreen Sabrina (Carlson) and Robert Ricedorf Roland, was born Aug. 5, 1954, in Creston.
Bob graduated from Creston High School in 1973.
On June 11, 1973, Bob joined the United States Army. Bob served during the Vietnam War Era, both stateside and in Germany. He was honorably discharged June 3, 1976, and received a National Defense Service Medal.
On Sept. 4, 1998, Bob married Elizabeth “Libby” Sheryl Davis at Rainbow Park in Creston.
Bob lived most of his life in Creston. He lived in Washington state for a few years from 2002 until January 2008.
Bob attended college for electrical training for one year. He worked for Wellman Dynamics for 22 years, working as a molder most of those years. Bob also worked in the heat treat department at Wellman Dynamics for several years. While Bob lived in Vancouver, Wash., he worked as a sanitation engineer for Gustof Restaurant.
Bob was a member of the GMP Union, American Legion in Creston and SCADS of Creston.
Bob is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Libby” Sheryl Roland of Creston; children, Bobbie Sue (Cory) Preston of Winterset, John David Foster of Creston and Sally Jean (Billy) Blish of Urbandale; grandchildren, Travis Allen Ray Floyd, Jaden Elizabeth Pederson, Levi Dalton Foster and Vincent Santino Blish; brother Ralph (Karalee) Roland of Vancouver, Wash.; sisters, Bonnie (William) Cornick of Creston, Annell Roland of Afton and Beth (Dennis) Christensen of Creston; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Dale O’Neill; cousin Tricia Minner; and nephew Michael Jackson.
