Published: Thursday, July 11, 2013 11:04 a.m. CDT

AFTON — Afton Federated Garden Club encourages flower lovers to enter horticulture specimens, container-grown plants and design division entries at the Union County Fair.

Entries should be brought to the fairgrounds between 8 and 11 a.m. July 22 with judging at 1 p.m. Entry release date is 2 to 4 p.m. July 25.

All horticultural entries must be grown by the exhibitor. Men and women and children ages 14 and younger are encouraged to participate. Containers should be marked in an inconspicuous place, and a written list of entries is helpful in making the entry tags. Entry fee is 50 cents per item. Premiums are blue, $1.25; red, $1; and white, 75 cents.

Fair books are available at Union County Extension in Creston and Afton City Hall. Floriculture rules are listed on pages 67-73.
