Kent Dinner Club

Kent Dinner Club met July 11 at Creston Family Restaurant with six in attendance.

The next meeting will be 5:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at Creston Family Restaurant.

Porcelain Painters

Members of the Creston Area Porcelain Painters met 10 a.m. July 12 at The Windrow.

President Christal Arthur attended the meeting. She is visiting clubs across the state to get to know members and listen to their suggestions for making the organization stronger. She reminded the group the fall board meeting will be Oct. 26 in Story City at the community center. Teacher Marty Hill, known for her portrait painting and new techniques, will be the guest artist that day.

Convention plans are underway; the dates are May 15-17, and there will be three guest artists featured. The theme is “Capture The Magic of China Painting.” The Creston club will have a display table at this event held at Holiday Inn and Suites on Merle Hay Road in Des Moines.

Many members in the Creston club will be entering the state and county fairs.

Several members will also be giving demos at the state fair. Judith Wachter, Judy Gile and Glida Jones will paint at the state fair and visit with attendees about this art form.

Members are also encouraged to enter the county fair to promote painting and support the efforts of having a county fair.

The cancer cup project continues to be successful. Currently, there are more than 20 cups available for choosing when cancer treatments are finished. Members were encouraged to paint cups to replenish supplies available.

Creston:Arts gallery was discussed. Two porcelain painters have their work displayed in the restored Creston Depot Gallery. The exhibit is changed monthly and has featured varied art forms. Volunteers are needed for Creston:Arts. For more information call 641-247-1663.

Several members shared what they are currently working on; those examples were admired. Techniques and new materials were used with some of these projects and each artist explained how the effect was achieved.

The next meeting of Creston Area Porcelain Painters will be 10 a.m. Aug. 2 at The Windrow. Meetings are open to anyone interested in painting on porcelain.


The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at The Windrow with 22 members and four guests. Brad Lorenzen president, presided. Jim Nelson did the prayer, and Chuck Taylor was finemaster.

The program was Lori Knight, donor recruitment representative for the American Red Cross, who discussed the daily need for more than 40,000 units of blood and blood products. The need is greater in the summer.

Kiwanis Club presented local bloodmobile coordinators Betty Wallace and Kay Ritter  with a $300 check to help with their local fundraising efforts to support Creston’s bloodmobile.
