Icarian Players to present ‘Scenes from “Maybe Baby, It’s You”’

CORNING — The cast is set and dates are booked for the Icarian Players “‘Scenes from ‘Maybe Baby, It’s You,’” in partnership with the Corning Opera House.

Performances will be 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

The Icarian Players, after a long hiatus, are working to rejuvenate the community theater and have selected a humorous look at trying to find true love to kick-start their initiative. They will perform 10 vignettes in a modified Reader’s Theater format (where actors use scripts and minimal costuming), as they run the gamut from “wishing” for that perfect someone, to surviving a blind date, to looking back on a relationship that didn’t go the distance.

The play was created by Charlie Shanian and Shari Simpson and is being produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Ill. A few love songs have been added to set the mood.

Cast members are Wes Ray, Jodi Lyddon, Caleb Nett, Katie Hoerman, Nancy Turner, Jim Heaton, Ray Reynolds, Liam Ray, Denise Swartz, Ciara McCarty, Andrew Zimmerman, Joyce Hoerman, Karen Carl, Valerie Heaton and Melody Miller.

Bobette Fife will lead the music with the help of pianist Deb Roberts and additional singers of Andrea Boswell, Martha Linn, Carol Hardisty and Rex Townsend.

Additional crew members are Andrew Heaton, Jill Sjulin, Lorna Schafer, Nancy Kempton, Phil Morris, William Haugland, Ian Smith, Debby Blazek, Cheryl Swartz, Aurilla Goldsmith, Veronika Golden and Sara Golden.

The play is being directed by Beth Waddle.

Tickets are on sale now. They may be purchased at the Lauvstad Center, by calling the Corning Opera House at 641-418-8037 or from any members of the cast and crew. Tickets at the door are $12 adult and $8 for students 12 and younger, or in advance $10 and $6.
