Mary R. Oberkamper — Spearfish, S.D.

Mary R. Oberkamper, 90, of Spearfish, S.D., formerly of Creston, died July 12, 2013, at David M. Dorsett Senior Care Center in Spearfish, S.D.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 19, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 107 W. Howard St., Creston. The Rev. Kenneth Halbur Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Pearson Family Funeral Service of Creston is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Holy Spirit Church. Mary Rita Oberkamper, daughter of Mary L. (Brownrigg) and Nicholas F. Repplinger, was born July 28, 1922, at the Repplinger family homestead in Cromwell.

Mary graduated from Nevinville High School and earned her two-year teaching degree at St. Theresa’s College in Winona, Minn., and Bachelor of Science degree at Yankton College in Yankton, S.D.

She taught in Cooper, Harlan, Yankton, S.D., and Clark, S.D.

On Feb. 8, 1945, Mary married Lloyd “Curly” Oberkamper in Scranton.

In retirement from teaching, Mary and Lloyd owned and operated a family hardware store with their son Jim in Falls City, Neb. They retired to Creston.

Mary volunteered at Holy Spirit Church’s ReRun Shop for more than two decades.

Mary is survived by her children, James Oberkamper of Creston, Kathleen (James) Benson of Lead, S.D., and Alicia Johnson (James) of Placitas, N.M.; sister JoAnn Moffitt of Creston; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband; parents; infant brother; and sister Margaret (Repplinger) Woods.
