Armed forces news
Army National Guard Spc. Bryan Miller, member of the 2168th Transportation Company, has been recommended to receive an Army Commendation Medal for his service during Operation Iraqi Freedom Aug. 28, 2004, to Oct. 13, 2005. Miller is the son of Lloyd and Suzanne Miller of Tingley and a graduate of Mount Ayr High School.
Spc. Miller completed 25 convoy missions for more than 19,000 miles, all accident and incident free. On many occasions, Spc. Miller faced mortar attacks, small arms fire and improvised explosive devices placed by insurgent forces. On every occasion, Spc. Miller led the convoy out of the kill zone and helped ensure the convoy was able to complete the mission.
On Feb. 17, 2005, while on convoy in Iraq, Spc. Miller’s convoy received small arms fire, while they were stopped on the main supply route Tampa. Miller pulled security for the convoy. His quick response enabled the convoy to vacate the area without casualties or damage to equipment.
