This summer, a noticeable number of Creston High School graduates have returned home to start careers and raise their families.
Michael and Amanda (Miller) Buck — both 2004 CHS graduates — will be the latest to return to Creston. Dr. Michael Buck graduated from the University of Iowa College of Denistry in 2011. Academically, he was ranked the top dentist in his class of 76 students. He returns to Creston after spending more than two years employed at Midwest Dental in Appleton, Wis.
“I got a lot of good experience with Midwest Dental,” Buck said. “It allowed me to hone my skills before becoming a practice owner.”
Buck said he looked at several different areas to start a dental practice, but ultimately decided to come back to Creston and start one in his hometown.
“Both Amanda and I wanted to be in a smaller community,” Buck said. “The Creston community has always been supportive of us, we wanted to be closer to family and felt like we should give back to the Creston community.”
Buck will start his family practice full time in August in the same office as his father Dr. Dave Buck and Dr. Steve Tilley.
Tilley plans to cut back on the number of hours he works each week. The office is located at 304 W. Lucas St. in Creston.
Amanda — a dental hygienist — will work part time at the family practice. They will also be gracing the community with a newborn son Carter William Buck.
Joel and Brianna (Schneider) Weis — both 2005 graduates of CHS — returned to Creston in June. Dr. Joel Weis is a graduate of University of Iowa in 2009 and Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn., in 2013. He is currently working as a full-time optometrist with Family Vision Center in Creston and Mount Ayr.
Brianna is a dispensing optician at Family Vision Center.
Also, CHS graduates Ryan and Jennifer (Hudson) Hoyt returned to Creston in June. Ryan — formerly a BIM modeler for Thornton Tomasetti in Kansas City, Mo. — is employed with Green Valley Lawn Care in Creston. And, Jennifer is a pharmacist at Creston Hy-Vee.
They will grace the community with a newborn son Cameron Michael Hoyt.
Also, Caitlyn Lesan — a 2008 graduate of CHS — recently accepted a position as admissions coordinator at Southwestern Community College. She’s another graduate of the University of Iowa. She started with SWCC July 1.
